Qaytbay in Cairo’s City of the Dead

 

Photographs from around the Sultan of Qaytbay Mosque in Cairo’s City of the Dead.

This mosque was completed in 1474 by the Mamluk Sultan Al-Ashraf Qaytbay. Qaytbey was a slave who rose to become Sultan at the age of 54 and ruled for nearly 29 years from 1468 to 1496.
